Curro Salt Rock 7s Football Festival a great success

The Salt Rock school also enjoyed a series of fantastic results across the province.

Curro Salt Rock hosted an enjoyable junior boys’ sevens soccer tournament on Saturday, narrowly missing out on a finals berth.

North Coast schools Ashton International College Ballito, Reddam House Ballito, Maidstone Primary School, Darnall Primary School and Eden Village Preparatory School all accepted invitations to participate in the festival as did Domino Servite School from Kranskop.

Ashton edged Reddam House 1-0 in an evenly matched U13 final. However, Reddam managed to take the U11 title, beating Maidstone Primary School 1-0 to take home the trophy.

Ashton U13 winning head coach, Shane Duncan, was happy with his team’s performance and emphasized the sportsmanship and camaraderie at the event.

“I’d like to thank Curro for hosting the event. We had a great time, all the games were played with an amazing spirit by all teams,” he said.

“I’m proud of my boys for managing to take home the trophy. But it’s not only about winning trophies, it’s about the having fun and playing in the right spirit. We grateful to the organisers and parents, who supported the boys.”

Curro’s U13s (11 points) won three of their six matches but finished level on points with Reddam Ballito (11).

However, only the top two teams progressed to the final and the hosts (+2) missed out on goal difference to Reddam Ballito (+3).

Curro primary school head of sport, Phelelani Mtembu, said the long-term developmental initiative of the Curro Salt Rock 7s Football Festival aims to provide young boys with the opportunity to compete for medals and trophies but also to lay a solid foundation for the future of school football.

“The tournament was a resounding success, showcasing young talent and instilling hope and belief in the future of football in our community,” he said.

“Our vision is to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the sport at both provincial and national levels.

“We extend our congratulations to Reddam House Ballito U11s for their victory over Maidstone Primary and commend Ashton College, our reigning champions, for their impressive win against Reddam Ballito in the U13 final.”
