Ashton claims impressive wins over traditional powerhouses

Ashton's 1st teams rallied earned superb wins against some of KZN's finest traditional schools.

Ashton International College Ballito continued to raise the bar on the North Coast with another round of impressive sports results against traditional rivals last week.

The 1st rugby, hockey and netball teams all delivered standout performances. Both the 1st rugby and hockey sides went unbeaten, while the 1st netball team claimed one win and narrowly lost a high-scoring thriller against one of KwaZulu-Natal’s top sides.

Rugby

Ashton’s 1st XV and U15A rugby teams recorded commanding wins over Clifton School and a KZN development team. The U15s were particularly dominant, scoring 80 points across two matches without conceding a single point.

Jared Scheepers is one of the best prospects to come out of Ashton’s rugby programme.

The 1st XV notched 111 points in their wins over Clifton 2nds and the KZN development team.

Among the standout players is Jared Scheepers, one of Ashton’s brightest rugby prospects. He has been selected for the Sharks U18 Reitz Week team, which will travel to the Free State for a five-day tournament from 30 June to 4 July.

Jared Scheepers was selected in the Sharks U18 Reitz Week Squad.

He is one of only two North Coast players to be selected for a provincial side in this age group. The Reitz Week squad features top talent from KZN’s inland and coastal tier-2 schools.

Ashton rugby coach, Siya Mbanga, has also been appointed team manager for the U17 AFGRI Week team, which will compete in Bethlehem from 30 June to 3 July.

Ashton’s netballers held their own against two tough opponents.

Netball

Ashton’s netballers held their own in a competitive round of fixtures against Durban Girls’ High School (DGHS) and Durban Girls’ College (DGC).

Against DGHS, Ashton won four of six matches, with the other two lost by just one point. The 1st team secured a close 24-21 win.

They found tougher opposition in DGC, who beat them previously at the Curro Sports Festival. The 2nd team claimed Ashton’s sole win of the day with an impressive 20-13 result, while the 1st team lost a high-scoring contest 35-29.

Ashton continues to enjoy a successful hockey campaign.

Hockey
