Curro Salt Rock claim double victory at weekend hockey festival

The boys’ and girls’ first teams both won on home turf.

Curro Salt Rock Primary School celebrated a weekend of hockey triumphs as they hosted and performed well at their junior hockey festival.

The two-day festival featured U11 and U13 teams from across KZN. Curro clinched two of the four age-group titles, with exceptional performances from both their boys’ and girls’ first teams on Saturday.

The festival highlighted Curro’s growing strength in junior hockey and their commitment to nurturing young talent.

The boys’ team topped their group with three wins and three draws before edging Hamptons Primary School from Umhlanga Rocks 1-0 in a tense final.

Curro’s 1st team adding to the school’s trophy cabinet.

“You dream of days like this,” said boys’ head coach, Kevin Mason.

“I am incredibly proud to see these young men succeed and share this moment together. It’s a memory we will carry for a long time.”

Curro’s girls’ first team were equally impressive, finishing the tournament unbeaten with five wins and one draw. They netted 14 goals without conceding and sealed the gold medal with a 1-0 victory over Domino Servite School from the KZN Midlands.

All smiles for the Curro U11A girls’ team after finishing runners up.

Girls’ coach, Mxolisi Ndlovu, credited the team’s preparation.

“It was a fantastic tournament to judge how far we have progressed this season,” said Ndlovu.

The boys topped their pool but fell 3-2 to Eden Village Preparatory School in the semi-final after a goalless draw in regular time. Umhlali Prep came out tops in the final against Eden Village 1-0.
