A local non-profit in Shaka’s Head received seeds and gardening equipment on Mandela Day to help improve food security and promote sustainable living.

Ballito’s Ward 6 councillor Ayabonga Zwane handed over the seeds and gardening implements to iKhaya Lethu Organisation NPO as part of this year’s Mandela Day celebrations.

Zwane said the initiative was about creating lasting change through simple acts of kindness.

“These gardening tools and seeds will empower the organisation and its beneficiaries to grow their own fresh, healthy vegetables, helping to improve food security while reducing the financial burden of purchasing produce,” he said.

“By investing in sustainable community gardens, we are not only providing immediate support but also helping families become more self-reliant and building a stronger, healthier community.”

Zwane said Mandela Day serves as a reminder that everyone has the power to make a positive difference, no matter how small the contribution.
