Curro Salt Rock pupils joined Nation Builders Development in celebrating Mandela Day by volunteering at Animally Haven Shelter.

The children donated pet food and other supplies to help care for abandoned animals.
The initiative saw volunteers spend time at the shelter, which is home to 108 dogs and 72 cats, while learning about the importance of compassion, service and community involvement.

Nation Builders Development founder Annet Sewraj said the project aimed to inspire young people to see volunteering as more than a once-a-year event.

“Mandela Day reminds us that true leadership is found in serving others. Our vision extends beyond one day of giving. We want to raise a generation that understands the value of compassion, generosity and volunteerism,” she said.

Sewraj said that by giving young people practical opportunities to serve, Nation Builders Development hopes to nurture future leaders who will continue Madiba’s legacy of selfless service.
