Just a thought to ponder in our busy world of progress. Are we as Ballito and the surrounding areas inhabitants prepared for any form of emergency or disaster?
I agree the long overdue road works are necessary and most welcome, however has any thought or planning been initiated in the event of any emergency? Let’s face it people there are ATM bombings, aircraft disasters, motor vehicle collisions and natural disasters every day somewhere in South Africa not to mention the rest of the world with terrorist activities reported on a daily basis!
My question is this – (not knocking our own emergency services who do a sterling job) have we as North Coast residents got an Emergency Disaster Plan setup? I have never seen any meetings called to establish exactly what procedures must be followed in the event of an emergency in order for the necessary authorities to be able to access the scene effectively? The last thing they need to deal with is blocked roads due to hysterical people trying to leave or enter the scene to find loved ones!
A suggestion: surely schools and/or churches can be used as muster points, hereby clearing the immediate danger area and ensuring the safety of children.
What about installing a siren at our local fire station and residents given mock scenarios to learn and be taught to all report to a designated area as different siren calls will inform us as to exactly which area to steer clear of?
There are so many building that are located in cul de sacs, what would happen if Alberlito Hospital needed to be evacuated, never mind the congestion of just getting to it. And do we have access to air support in the event of a terrorist attack of any form?
Let’s face it fellow residents, we are pretty much up the proverbial creek without a paddle right now never mind a lifebelt! And we will be gained another 20 000 visitors in next few weeks – are we prepared?
