I had the “misfortune” of having to pop into the Umhlali Post Office to collect a registered letter.
When I entered, there was a young man standing at the counter waiting to be served. No one was there to attend to him, but there was a lot of loud talking and laughing coming from the back offices. The youngster said that he had been waiting for a long time.
I then called out to the back, letting “whomever” know that there were people in the front requiring attention. Eventually an elderly Indian man emerged looking very grumpy. He informed the youngster that he couldn’t help him with any photostats that he required.
I intervened and pointed at the sign stuck on the window which offered photostat and faxing services. The post office teller loudly informed us that the machine was not in working order. I then simply asked that the sign be removed to avoid unnecessary wasting of time.
Oh my gosh! I was rudely shouted at that it was not for me to say and that he would keep the sign where it was! Clearly this Post Office has got very unhappy and disgruntled employees who would appear not to enjoy their jobs and are most certainly not people friendly. This grumpy one should really consider early retirement? I hope he was not the branch manager!
