Earlier this month Tongaat Child and Family Welfare Society hosted a programme that involved the distribution of school uniforms to 44 deserving pupils.
The need for school uniforms arose at the beginning of this year when clients approached their social workers requesting much-needed school uniforms for their children. Due to the large number of requests, a decision was taken by the board of management and the Children’s Fund committee to undertake this distribution.
The packages varied according to the uniform required at each school and included two of each item eg. dresses, pants, shirts, skirts, T-shirts, socks, shoes and underwear. It is through the hard work and sheer dedication of the schools in the Tongaat community, the principals, teachers, coordinating teachers and pupils who made this possible since the monies utilised for this initiative came from the Children’s Fund itself.
The Children’s Fund conceptualises the idea of “Children helping children”. The monies collected are also utilized to sustain the schools’ breakfast programme that is run by this society. We believe that “Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something”. On behalf of Tongaat Child and Family Welfare Society, we place on record our sincere thanks and appreciation to the schools in the Tongaat Community for all their efforts in ensuring that this fund is a success.
