The plight of Lake St Lucia should be of major concern to all who live in KZN. Tourism, particularly environmental tourism, is vital to our province while the sugar industry has been our economic life blood for many years.
In light of the above it is essential that the current impasse between the sugar farmers’ co-operative and environmental officials, currently taking place at the iconic World Heritage Site of iSimangaliso, is resolved.
The involvement of the “bucket brigade” sent a message that the people of KZN really care about the St Lucia estuary and the many forms of life it supports.
This issue when back in court in May is sure to arouse much interest around the work being planned by iSimangaliso to reverse some of the damaging practices of the past.
The DA awaits the outcome with interest.
Long term sustainable environmental practice is essential, especially during this crippling drought.
