The people are angry. I have received numerous complaints about the problem of addresses of voters.
It appears that the IEC is really struggling with the information they have on the voters roll. Addresses are incomplete, incorrect or missing altogether. At best this is through disorder, at worst it is deliberate.
Whatever else happens, the IEC will not be able to exclude voters who have voted before. Many of us still have those stickers in our ID books, which prove we have voted before. The address SNAFU applies across the country, and across all political parties.
I feel sorry for the IEC officials, at the voting stations, who have taken a lot of flack . . . and may well throw in the towel for the 3 August election – as the payment for working for the IEC does not cover the abuse they get.
Your vote is your right, and something we all struggled to get, for each South African over 18. The people simply won’t stand for being disenfranchised. Civil unrest is the current answer to service delivery issues. So one can almost guarantee that this will occur, if voters are prevented from voting on August 3.
