Roads in Ballito can be a talking subject for days, weeks and months but sadly, not much use if nothing gets done about it.
The area around Tiffany’s that has been a subject of discussion of late and to experience firsthand the danger of this area at busy times is enough to stress you out to the max. Hats off to those who have to use this area daily in peak hour times and live to tell the tale!
The off-ramp from the highway firstly; you take your life in your hands trying to get off it. I’ve seen manoeuvers that I swore were being filmed for a movie! The rest of the road and intersection has been discussed previously and moving the entrance to the shopping centre, that apparently will help the situation.
My question is WHY in the creation of cats, can road calming “humps” not be placed at strategic positions to prevent the cars racing from Salt Rock side? Surely this could help in some small way to prevent the kinds of accidents that have taken place in the area?
Why has this never been done! Force people to slow down and give others a chance to get into the stream of traffic? What excuse will the powers that be have for that suggestion, I wonder?
The same goes for Ballito Drive. It is common practice for pedestrians to walk in the road as there is no pavement in places for them to walk on. There are streams of workers who have no means of transport from the Avonhills area and others from the lower part of Ballito who are forced to walk on Ballito Drive to get to the taxi rank (Same as the unfortunates who have to walk to the train station!).
We have all read of the recent tragic accident when a Ballito businessman lost his life. How many times have I driven this road and have had to swerve for people, some ambling along in the middle of the road? One has to swerve at times to avoid hitting a pedestrian, but what if there is a car racing at a speed from the opposite direction?
Could someone from the roads department perhaps respond and help the community understand why nothing is done?
