Report Back: Councillor Geoff Pullan

Alcohol and water are not a good mix

I want to wish all residents and visitors to this northern part of eThekwini, a peaceful and relaxing festive season.

The city has been trying to improve service delivery, but we sometimes get our priorities wrong.

We are controlled by political masters, who are more concerned with giving contracts for financial gain. What can ordinary people do about it?

Well for a start, make sure you are registered to vote in 2019. There is a registration weekend on 26/27 January 2019 – at every voting station countrywide.

There are 12 voting stations in ward 58 alone. If you are registered, but have subsequently moved – then you should re-register, so that your new address is captured on the IEC computer. Registered voters can choose our new government!

The good news in ward 58 is that we have nearly finished fixing the 80+ roofs at Hammonds Farm that were storm damaged a year ago. Likewise, the 1.35 km long pavement from the M27 down past the Spar store is progressing nicely. This will keep people and especially children off the road.

Employment opportunities have increased in the ward, too. The Sibaya development is moving ahead quickly, with some of the residential units already occupied. Likewise, huge tracts of land are being levelled and shaped around the King Shaka airport.

This is primarily for warehousing and logistics. Again, more jobs are created during construction and thereafter.

The canalization of parts of the Uhlawe, past Brake Village, has tidied up this entrance to Tongaat. Various road repairs have, and are being done in the ward.

Most of them are necessary! The La Mercy Maths, Science & Technology Academy is scheduled to be completed this year, and will be another positive learning facility for the city. So, things are happening in ward 58.

Our beaches are also being geared up for the festive holiday season. We remind beach goers to be sensible. Alcohol and water are not a good mix. We entreat the public to look after the environment, so that we leave our planet in a good state for future generations.

On that note, take care and enjoy our wonderful coastal heaven.
