Local is always better.

Supporting local is what makes a community succeed economically and thrive in the relationships between its members.

You can buy cheap slops made in China or you can pay a bit more and be part of someone else’s success story.

No man is an island.

There are so many incredibly talented, brilliant minds in KwaDukuza, and many, many businesses fighting for their place in the sun.

Each business represents one or more likely a team of people with a vision, and each of them has a family relying on that vision coming into being.

This is also the premise upon which every community newspaper establishes its right to exist.

Our bread and butter is the news that you can get nowhere else, but right here.

The shenanigans at local council, the spotlight on important social issues, scandals, scams and sport.

The new entrepreneur on the block and the back-stories of the teller, barrister, candle-stick maker and teacher who you greet every day in the grocer isle.

The inspiring ordinary superheros who are doing incredible things right under our noses. These are the stories that make The Courier come alive.

We are also committed to supporting local initiatives and the past week has seen the conclusion of two of our main media sponsorships for the year: The Ballito Pro and Miss Ballito.

Both events were hugely successful and contributed both to the local economy and building community on the Dolphin Coast.

Rotary Zimbali for example has, from its inception in 2011, used the pageant to bring in more than R600 000 to various charities.

Aside from the money, the girls are also involved in charity projects, as the focus is on established inner beauty that compliments their appearance rather than being all about looks.

As Roald Dahl famously wrote:

“A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

Going back to the importance of local: we have totally revamped our Autodealer.

Goodbye generic car news, say hello to everything car with a unique Dolphin Coast flavour!

The change has been exciting for us. We have discovered that Dolphin Coast people are really passionate about their cars.

Be it beautiful vintage Beetles or hardass Jeeps and 4x4s – men and women alike love to let their hair down and just drive.

The Autodealer is not just about buying and selling cars either, its is the place were you can look for everything your car needs, from new tyers to 4×4 modifications.

We have also brought the Autodealer forward in the paper, just before Leisure Options to give it a new place of prominence.

So buckle up and read on.
