Jaqui Muir of His Way outreach writes:
Seven weeks ago, South Africa entered unprecedented territory.
Throughout this all, we have forged ahead as an organisation still in our infancy, and have been able to provide much needed relief to over 4 000 families in areas such as Groutville, Shakas Head, Driefontein, Ndwedwe, Margate, Richmond, Waterfall, Shayamoya, Nkobongo, Etete, Magwaveni, Verulam, Tongaat, Upper Tongaat, Glendale and Richards Bay.
We have been truly blessed to have had the support of organisations such as the Ashton Families Who Care, Linc Foundation and Rivers Church and Vision 153 – a handful of donors that have helped a critical need.
The distribution itself has posed various challenges. Some communities, due to their proximity to the urban areas, have received more relief than others.
There has also been a challenge with double dipping, and this creates serious contention in communities. Transparent lists are critical in order to ensure accountability to our donors.
Whilst I have maintained a great working relationship with SAPS Umhlali, I am pleased that the support of so many true humanitarians has allowed my NPO, His Way outreach, to reach new heights and fill a critical void.
I would also like to use the medium of your publication to ask the community to keep Captain Vinny Pillay in your thoughts and prayers during his time in recovery.
To my incredible community, thank you reaching out to us and offering all the right ingredients — hope, optimism and observations.
