Letter: Licensing delays leave KwaDukuza motorists frustrated

"A notice published by KwaDukuza municipality on Friday makes reference to the date being delayed from June 1 2020 to June 8 2020" - Cllr Privi Makhan.

Ward 22 Cllr Privi Makhan writes:

Further delays in the reopening of drivers’ licence testing centres (DLTCs) have led to a high level of frustration from residents who have taken to various platforms to highlight the lack of communication.

A notice published by KwaDukuza municipality on Friday makes reference to the date being delayed from June 1 2020 to June 8 2020.

It is deeply concerning that the centres did not open as per amendments issued in terms of Section 27 (2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2000, gazetted on May 7 2020, which gave clear direction to the prompt reopening of vehicle licencing and renewal services.

Three weeks later, little has been done in order to ensure that these revenue generating operations are prioritised.

Thorough disinfection, social distancing and health and safety protocols must be prioritised in order to avoid DLTCs becoming an epicentre of spreading the virus, whilst servicing the community.

I will continue to monitor the state of readiness at our local DLTCs and provide the community with updates.
