Letter: We just pay, pay, pay
"As for the apparent work carried out, it is noted that a small part of Ocean Drive has been resurfaced, however the manhole covers on the road have not been raised to the road surface level and this gives rise to dangerous holes in the new road surface" - George Gray.
Retired engineer George Gray of Ballito writes:
To be blunt, I cannot consider that any work whatsoever has been done by the municipality in the Greater Ballito/Salt Rock area.
In Ballito the majority of street lights still do not work and many of the few working lights are shielded by overgrown trees which require to be trimmed.
Try driving from The Junction down Simbithi Drive – about two street lights operational but hidden in overgrown trees.
As for the apparent work carried out, it is noted that a small part of Ocean Drive has been resurfaced, however the manhole covers on the road have not been raised to the road surface level and this gives rise to dangerous holes in the new road surface.
Obviously, there are no qualified engineers employed by KDM and the contractor has been left to do a poor job as usual, as I would question what surface preparation was carried out to the original road surface prior to resurfacing.
Obviously KDM must held legally responsible for any damage to vehicles due to the unfinished and now dangerous situation on Ocean Drive.
When are all the speed humps in the entire area going to be painted or otherwise marked to allow drivers to see them in darkness?
All the residents and ratepayers do is to pay, pay, and pay and virtually get nothing in return.
This is supposed to be a town trying to attract visitors but all KDM are doing is frightening them all away.
There should be no increase in salaries and definitely no bonuses until it becomes obvious that the KDM staff are qualified and capable of the positions that they hold, and are able to produce results to make people proud to live in the area.
