Letter: Quick fix does not work

"It will not be long until some major accident occurs with a member of the public either driving into the void, due to lack of proper "road closure" barricades, or someone breaking bones trying to access Christmas Bay beach" - Elaine Dunn.

Elaine Dunn of Sheffield Beach writes:

It appears that despite the efforts of our Ward 22 councillor, the powers-that-be in our local government are more inclined to spend money on themselves and giving themselves higher salaries than they are in looking after the infrastructure and spending the monies received from hard pressed ratepayers.

Broken stairs at Christmas Bay.

The road collapse in Sheffield Drive happened for the second time on May 4, as well as the beach access at Christmas Bay.

These defects – before collapse – were repeatedly pointed out and action requested.

Assessments were supposedly done but nothing happened.

Surely somebody somewhere must realise that you have to maintain things?

They cannot carry on with the “cheap quick fix”.

Colwyn Drive collapse.

As demonstrated in these pictures it does not work, and costs twice as much to repair than if a proper job had been done properly originally.

It will not be long until some major accident occurs with a member of the public either driving into the void, due to lack of proper “road closure” barricades, or someone breaking bones trying to access Christmas Bay beach.
