Nelson Puckree of Stanger Heights writes:
The gender-based violence and the brutal murder of the innocent is in the hands of the government.
The ministers, members of parliament, with some corrupt police officers, have failed the law-abiding citizens of South Africa.
Many lives were lost in the recent wave of violent crimes that swept through Stanger.
Unfortunately, very few of the perpetrators were prosecuted. I’m talking from experience.
My brother was killed but his murderer is still walking free.
This is a betrayal of the worst kind. I blame most of these crimes on drugs, alcohol, poor detective work, corruption and bribery and the impotence of the judiciary.
The rich pay their way out of prison.
Jails are only meant for the poor, it would seem.
It’s time to take a stand against rampant crime and the injustice system.
I strongly believe that if our government was serious about reducing crime and protecting its law-abiding citizens, it would scrap legal aid and punish criminals severely.
The state must bring back the death penalty to deter criminals.
Once convicted, murders, hi-jackers, kidnappers and rapists must serve their time in disused mines, far away from their families.
Only breakfast should be provided by the government.
Their lunch and supper should be paid for by their families.
The prisoners would have to be tagged and sent to work in factories and on farms, and their earnings used to pay for prison services such as water, electricity and rent.
All convicted prisoners’ human rights should also be suspended.
