DA Ward 6 Cllr Tammy Colley writes:
KwaDukuza’s 2020/21 budget has had a mixed reception. Any increases in this time of financial uncertainty is worrisome.
While the DA called for zero increases in tariffs, failing which that the increase remains in line with the CPI, there has indeed been an increase, although adjusted.
This will not bring much relief to cash-strapped consumers.
We are faced with a severely constrained budget and it is paramount at this time that public funds are utilised for the purpose they are intended.
Can we trust this municipality?
It has been over a year since Cllr Mthembu was deployed to the Legislature, and the ANC are unable to agree on a replacement – not a sign of a professional party.
One of the pillars of good governance is participation.
Covid-19 limited physical public participation in the IDP and Budget.
The public who got involved and objected by making submissions have made their voices heard.
Well done! With over 6100 objections received, I am glad it doesn’t fall on me to reply to all those!
With the acknowledgment that this is the first time that there has been so many objections received, the real question is why?
Have the citizens of KwaDukuza had enough of the ANC led municipality continuing to make empty service delivery promises, like for example streetlights that actually work?
