There have recently been some very negative posts doing their rounds on social media regarding the DogBox:

• Waiting in a queue for one and a half hours and being treated rudely by staff .

• As the goods are donated, one of the several volunteers purchases “the cream of the crop”, before anyone is afforded an opportunity and,

• Goods donated being sold at over-inflated prices at flea markets.

Although I was not witness to any of these incidents, I would like to take the opportunity to share my experiences and observations of the Dog Box.

The Dog Box operates under certain terms and conditions, as laid out by the head office of the SPCA.

Under Covid-19 rules, only 5 people may enter the store at any given time and children under 12 are requested not to enter the store.

This will obviously result in longer waiting times for some, and an inconvenience for those with kids in tow. Volunteers have always been extremely pleasant.

I have always found them to be friendly and willing to assist with any task at hand.

Furthermore, may I suggest that anyone who feels disenfranchised by volunteers making purchases before anyone else, off er their services as a volunteer.

This may assist you in getting that special something before anyone else can, and you would be providing a community service – double bonus!

The Dog Box does not trade from any flea market! Should a member of the public buy goods from the Dog Box and then sell these elsewhere, this is clearly not the fault of the Dog Box.

I would like to thank the volunteers that give so unselfishly, for no personal financial gain, and keep the doors open for trading purposes, even during this difficult time.

Most of the volunteers are senior citizens and are constantly at risk of being infected with the coronavirus.

A huge thank you also, to the Ballito residents, that go out of their way to support this very worthy cause.

I know it is highly appreciated.

The Dog Box supports many unfortunate animals, and relies on the goodwill and support of our community.

Please do not stop supporting this worthy cause.

We are all under tremendous stress at the moment, and now is not the time to abandon charities which care for our animals.
