Letter: Follow instructions

"In all the years I have been going to the Salt Rock licencing department, I have never ever stood in a queue" - Deirdre Aveyard.

Deirdre Aveyard of Salt Rock writes:

Okay, I must confess to stirring the pot a bit.

The Salt Rock licencing department opened on Wednesday last week. I had been past numerous times on the Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, I decided to give up an hour my life to queue. I arrived at 11.50 am.

There were about 25 people in front of me. I casually remarked that “they” should have 2 people helping out and maybe, just maybe, work till 3pm catching up with the backlog.

I must mention that in all the years I have been going to the Salt Rock licencing department, I have never ever stood in a queue. I heard rumours while waiting that the “woman” was no longer there. Things started to heat up as were the complaints and the whining!

Some things never change . . . Getting closer to the door, I heard the comments as people came out. None were nice. I finally got to the counter at about 1.30 and JOY of JOYS . . . Ashrina Bisnath was there to greet me.

Again, and as always, she was friendly, efficient and very calm. She commented on a personal matter with me and I was touched that she remembered.

She is and always will be, to me, one of the loveliest staff I have ever had the good fortune to deal with.

It is a simple process: ID documentation and last year’s form with cash. The people insulting her and calling her names were those who could not follow simple instructions.

No identity document, no cash, no previous licence paper. Shame on you.

Those without enough cash were sent to draw and told to come straight back in. How awesome is that?

Ashrina Bisnath, you are a true professional. I thank you once again for a pleasant experience and being aware of the people still waiting.
