Letter: Post office frustrations

"Where is the time for the officials to attend to the customers, let alone inserting the mail to their respective boxes?" - Jay Haricharan.

Sheffield resident Jay Haricharan writes:

Regarding the write-up of the post office Umhlali in last week’s Courier (‘Post office closure causes confusion’).

Firstly it’s well said that the Ballito lease expired, I would welcome the residents to occupy boxes here.

I believe the journalist could have done more on this story.

1. The pathway leading to the boxes are in a serious state, the concrete is either sinking or protruding which can cause serious injury to the elderly. This post office is not wheelchair friendly nor for someone who uses clutches or a walking stick.

2. On Tuesday last week when I went to check on my utility bills the area was littered with leaves, not cleaned for days.

3. The lady in the office has no time for breakfast or lunch as she is all alone most of the time. To handle this workload she must be dynamic.

4. With this queue for the Covid grant so long, I hate to go there, with no social distancing and some do not use the mandatory mask.

Where is the time for the officials to attend to the customers, let alone inserting the mail to their respective boxes?

The utility bill’s are out on the 10th yet it’s not in the boxes, as of Saturday last week the 24th the bill was still not in the box?

How can this post office cater for the influx of customers and the grant recipients? It needs to be upgraded.
