Letter: Still a great place

With all these challenges, Ballito is still a great place to live, work and play, and we are fortunate to have wonderful people who volunteer on various committees and structures to assist stakeholders to keep our town beautiful

Ward councillors Tammy Colley and Privi Makhan write:

Ballito was established as a holiday town in 1954 and was still well known as a holiday town until around 20 years ago when we experienced rapid expansion.

As with anything in life, there is a balance effect.

Without an adequate rehabilitation and maintenance programme, our infrastructure has not been able to cope with this increase.

This has led to increasing potholes and non-functioning streetlights, not to mention unstable power supply, even without load shedding.

With all these challenges, Ballito is still a great place to live, work and play, and we are fortunate to have wonderful people who volunteer on various committees and structures to assist stakeholders to keep our town beautiful.

We are currently working on a plan to avoid any nasty and anti-social behaviour on our beaches so that all our visitors and residents can enjoy themselves safely.

2020 has certainly been a tough year on everyone.

It is fantastic to hear that the area is set to have a bumper festive season with bookings already full according to local booking agents.

Our hospitality sector really needs every chance to recover from the effects the overly-extended lockdown has had on it.
