Letter: Hunting ground for criminals

We really hope our lame and sleepy leaders will finally snap out of their lethargy and heed the people's cry.

Musa Mnyandu of Groutville writes:

It is with a great feeling of despondency that I have decided to pen this missive, to highlight a burning issue in KwaDukuza as the holiday season gets underway.

The town of KwaDukuza has of late become a happy hunting ground for criminals and a most unsafe environment for law-abiding citizens.

Brazen criminals (oddly they are referred to as ‘paras’ in KwaDukuza) now dominate the CBD, with no police in sight to protect innocent citizens.

As a growing number of citizens have indicated, while writing on social media platforms, taking a trip to KwaDukuza town is now tantamount to stepping inside a lion’s den.

Certainly, you stand a better chance of being robbed, or even stabbed, than that of returning home intact with your shopping.

Just why is Saps adopting such a laid back attitude towards this new CBD crime wave remains one of the greatest mysteries.

Similarly, KwaDukuza Municipality’s Traffic and Crime Prevention Department is placing more emphasis on dishing out fines for minor traffic offences than in combating crime within the CBD.

But of course, all the powers-that-be in the municipality surround themselves with heavily armed bodyguards, courtesy of the over-burdened ratepayers.

Why then would they bother themselves with “petty thieves”?

Except those “petty thieves” are stabbing and terrorising citizenry.

To make matters worse, these heinous monsters who have made our town their slaughterhouse are actually well known around town!

We really hope our lame and sleepy leaders will finally snap out of their lethargy and heed the people’s cry.
