Letter: Road repairs deserted

With the serious truck accident that occurred this past Saturday morning it may be an opportune time to investigate and report of the progress of the contract.

Roger Jay of Palm Lakes writes:

I have recently relocated to Palm Lakes and I am now more aware than ever of the dangers and inconvenience of the single lane closure on the N2 over the Umhlali River bridge.

Not to mention the 5 or so years that this section of highway has been closed.

There was a certain amount of activity up until the end of November 2020 and we were all optimistic that the national road would be opened for Christmas but I’m afraid this wasn’t to be.

In fact, other than a poor individual waving a flag, the place is deserted.

With the serious truck accident that occurred this past Saturday morning it may be an opportune time to investigate and report of the progress of the contract.

This section of the N2 is a death-trap just waiting for something to happen.

A stronger police presence is required to ensure that motorists obey the rules of the road as it is a free-for-all approaching this section of the highway with motorists jostling for position to get through the obstruction and using the emergency line.

Three into one doesn’t go without incidents.

Danger road signs and slowing speed limit are completely ignored.
