Ward 22 councillor Privi Makhan writes:
Legend has it that the name Salt Rock originates from the days when King Shaka’s maidens used to collect dried salt off the rocks. Steeped in history and boasting the most idyllic beaches in the entire Zulu kingdom, it’s no wonder visitors and locals alike choose to flock to this popular beach.
This past weekend was no different, with the beaches teeming with people and activity.
With a massive influx of crowds, visible policing, by law enforcement and adequate marine safety resources are imperative in order to ensure that the safety of beach goers is not compromised.
The KDM Community Safety Directorate rolled out an effective operational plan that saw stringent control measures being implemented.

The multi-disciplinary approach, which included support from Saps and CPF members allowed enhanced visibility at strategic points with an aim to prevent crime and socially irresponsible behaviour.
The various stakeholders that strategized and supported the well-coordinated operations must be commended.
Well done to KDM community safety, marine safety, Saps and CPF on an effective weekend of policing.
I must give a special mention to assistant director Marius Prinsloo, KDM community safety, for his relentless efforts in ensuring that community safety and enforcement remain a key priority in the KwaDukuza region, certainly an unsung hero in our midst.
