Letter: Residents tackle La Mercy beach cleanup

"Concerned citizens from the La Mercy South Beach Precinct took to the beach on Sunday morning to clean up the highly polluted beachfront" - Vanessa Singh and Eileen Hulin.

Vanessa Singh and Eileen Hulin of La Mercy write:

Concerned citizens from the La Mercy South Beach Precinct took to the beach on Sunday morning to clean up the highly polluted beachfront.

This small group collected over a 100 refuse bags in the blazing heat.

The support from Ethekwini Municipality was appreciated.

They provided the bags and collected the rubbish on a Sunday.

Really impressive.

While tons of fishermen were legally fishing, there were also some that did not have valid licences.

The Metro police were notified.

Anybody interested in joining the next clean up on Sunday, 18 April at 8am are welcome.

Starting point 182 South Beach Road (in front of Sea De La Vie complex).
