Letter: We had to re-register!

"After almost an hour, we were all told that if we did not receive a code number/confirmation, we would not be vaccinated" -

LA Naidoo of Tongaat writes:

Following the announcement of the registration for vaccination of citizens over 60, my wife (75) and I (87) registered online on April 16.

Up to May 31, there was no confirmation of date and venue for vaccination.

We phoned the Covid-19 hotline number.

The response was to wait until we got confirmation.

Subsequently the vaccination programme was carried out at the Tongaat Health Centre, Gokhale Hall/Vishwaroop and the Sports Centre.

Many of our friends and neighbours had gone to these venues and were vaccinated as long as they were over 60.

No confirmation was required.

On May 31, we visited the Sports Centre at 1.30pm.

The nurse told us we had to have confirmation.

When we showed her the SMS we received acknowledging the online registration, she asked us to come the next morning (June 1).

When we got there after 8am, there were already people waiting to be vaccinated.

After almost an hour, we were all told that if we did not receive a code number/confirmation, we would not be vaccinated.

Subsequently we re-registered online on June 1.

We are concerned at the lack of consistency in the vaccination programme.

How long does it take for us to get confirmation?

That’s bureaucracy for you!

The mistake was to show them the registration SMS.

We got vaccinated straightaway in Ballito without saying we’d registered, no questions asked! – Bruce Stephenson
