Letter: Road repairs welcome

"The long-awaited repairs to Hugh Dent Drive commenced last Monday, giving much relief to motorists and pedestrians" - Cllr Privi Makhan.

Ward 22 Cllr Privi Makhan writes:

There’s an old adage, “if you don’t like the road you are travelling, start paving a new one”.

The long-awaited repairs to Hugh Dent Drive commenced last Monday, giving much relief to motorists and pedestrians.

The road that has been in a shambolic state for many years and was very much beyond temporary pothole repair.

The extent of the rehabilitation was just under a kilometre, with rehab to a portion of Sheffield Drive being planned for the new financial year.

The residents of Ward 22 can also look forward to the rehabilitation of Basil Hulett Drive, which is due to begin in July.

While the Democratic Alliance in Ilembe welcomes the long overdue rehabilitation, we are also cognisant that a large number of roads across KwaDukuza are in dire need of repairs and maintenance.

We continue to stress the need for budgets to be allocated effectively, in order to ensure a good quality of life for all citizens.
