Letter: Please support rugby

"This club would give hope to many a youngster, most likely get them out of any bad company they may be forced into out of desperation, a want to be needed and in some way feel important" - Simon Scott.

Simon Scott of Ballito writes:

I write this with much disappointment in the community at large.

For how long has the Dolphins Rugby Club been trying to get off the ground?

We have seen what sport does for the nation and it’s a blueprint for unity and success.

So why can it not be the same for the community, and I mean the community, all inclusive?

This club can become something truly great if only the community would support it and get behind it.

We have the population and I am more than positive that there is also much raw talent out there and with a solid structure in place they could, who knows, produce the next Springbok captain.

Now would that not be amazing to be part of that possibility?

This club would give hope to many a youngster, most likely get them out of any bad company they may be forced into out of desperation, a want to be needed and in some way feel important.

I therefore ask for the community to pledge a meagre R10 per month per household towards a fund to get this club once and for all on solid ground.

Further to this I ask that those who have the ability to donate more please do so and that the wealthy amongst us help to get the club a place they can call home, not this nomadic experience they have had to endure over the years, training on makeshift fields without lighting, and limited facilities.

Let’s do something that we can all be proud of and really place our community on the map making our mark in history.

Please get in contact with myself if you are interested in this venture, so that we can take this to the club simonscott@outlook.com.
