Letter: Stick to the current law

"I hate to think of the extent to which the hospitality industry will suffer" - Tim Jenks.

Tim Jenks of Ballito writes:

The new drink-driving law must be the craziest.

Those who drink responsibly (within 0.05% per 100ml) are now to be punished because of those who drink as much as they want to and don’t seem to give a damn.

Those who do drink within the current limit are not the ones who cause accidents and know their personal ‘safety’ limits.

People’s capacity for alcohol varies from one to another.

Sadly, it will put an end to a relaxing time to share a quiet drink and chat with friends.

I think we’re pushed into destroying simple/innocent pleasures in life.

I hate to think of the extent to which the hospitality industry will suffer.

Many pubs will close down and hugely affect restaurants/alcohol producers along with loss of jobs.

Many people will now choose to stay at home unless there is a ‘designated driver’ (not great for them) or otherwise rely on the likes of Uber etc.

Stick to the current ruling and punish those who don’t!
