Letter: The emperor’s clothes

"We have been so beaten down with fear that we have forgotten how to think critically and most of us are suffering from cognitive dissonance" - Jane Clarkson.

Jane Clarkson of Ballito writes:

I was delighted and encouraged to read Lesley Naudé’s editorial “Unmask our Children” (Courier, July 30).

The evidence has been there for a while.

Cloth masks worn as they are, are largely ineffective.

Even more worrying is the mounting evidence to show the harm they cause, especially in children who are subjected to them for nearly 8 hours a day.

I would like to acknowledge those brave parents who spoke up early.

Those mothers who did the research and took a stand for their children.

And then made the difficult choice to remove their children from the schooling system.

I will have to live with the guilt of toeing the line and not protecting my children from a system I have come to distrust.

PANDA has excellent research on how lockdowns don’t work.

Yet, in spite of the facts, we carry on.

We know that lockdowns have killed – killed businesses, livelihoods, family units, education and even people (suicides and patients not treated for other illnesses).

We have been so beaten down with fear that we have forgotten how to think critically and most of us are suffering from cognitive dissonance.

There are illogical and irrational rules and behaviour all around us, yet we continue to play along.

When will someone shout “the emperor’s got no clothes on!”? Fear is a powerful tool.
