Hugh W.S. Hodge (Pr Eng) of Salt Rock responds:
Tony Psaila’s letter (Surrounded by beauty – and noise, North Coast Courier, July 9) deserves a response.
Civil engineers concentrate on civil society needs as perceived by government and the market.
Technicians focus on developing design themes via established management processes honed over decades.
Sources of noise pollution of an aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical or mechanised nature at some elevated sites in Greater Ballito are regrettable indeed.
These add to the already difficult to control pollution levels emanating not only from air, land and sea directions all around us, but also from within our own defining borders between the Tongaat River and the Umhlali River.
Coping with changes in the built environment is one of the greatest challenges to be faced as we emerge from Covid-19 lockdown effects.
How we grapple with this emergence and determination of its physical, mental, emotional and spiritual priorities will ultimately determine the next 10 years of lifestyles in a Greater Ballito.
Knowledge and partnerships comprising leaders from businesses, government departments and civil society teams will need mobilisation funding and collaboration tools.
