Letter: Too many babies

"Stanger hospital is only one hospital - just think of all the hospitals in South Africa delivering babies to young girls" - C Mkee.

C Mkee of Ballito writes:

I totally agree with Mr Puckree (An unequal society, August 13) regarding the recent looting and burning of property.

The real problem is the over-population of young teenagers as young as 13 years old falling pregnant.

Stanger hospital delivers nearly 50 babies in a day (I stand to be corrected here).

These young girls either go home to their mothers, grandmothers, or family members to help look after their babies while they finish their schooling.

Most of them don’t even know who the fathers are.

Then there are shacks erected because there is just nowhere to stay as the families get bigger.

Giving a grant for having a baby is not the way to go, this just makes the situation worse.

There are clinics in every area which provide birth control pills and condoms.

All young girl’s underage who are pregnant should have their tubes tied.

This is the only way the population explosion will partly go away.

I am sorry to sound heartless, but something needs to be done very soon.

Stanger hospital is only one hospital – just think of all the hospitals in South Africa delivering babies to young girls.

It is horrific to say the least.

Why have 6 children if you know you can only feed 2?
