Letter: No fine for expired licence cards?

"KwaDukuza was closed due to Covid-19. I then looked up Verulam and found they have introduced a booking system and after 15 phone calls someone answered and I got an appointment for November 15" - Peter Smit.

Peter Smit of Port Zimbali Estate writes:

I would like to share my experience so far trying to renew my driver’s licence.

I live in Ballito and started by phoning the 3 nearest licensing departments which are Umhlanga, KwaDukuza and Verulam.

After several unsuccessful phone calls I decided to go to each one. At Umhlanga I was told they don’t do drivers licence renewals although when Googled they do.

KwaDukuza was closed due to Covid-19. I then looked up Verulam and found they have introduced a booking system and after 15 phone calls someone answered and I got an appointment for November 15.

While researching on Google I found an article by Wheels24 stating that your driver’s licence does not expire, only the card expires.

Also there is no fine for expired cards or late renewals except the additional cost for a temporary licence.

I found this very interesting and would love to hear from anyone that knows more about this.
