#Letter: Use your vote wisely

"I challenge all political parties to publish their top 10 PR candidates in the local papers so that people can scrutinize the candidate lists and decide which party has the best candidates to serve them" - Nelson Puckree.

Nelson Puckree of Stanger Heights writes:

The dismissal by the con-court of the IEC application to postpone the local government election and ruling that they take place by not later than November 1 was a victory for democracy.

This election will be very interesting and open race. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic and many disgruntled residents, I think there will be a very low voter turnout, so anyone can win.

I believe Jacob Zuma was given medical parole to save face and whatever support the ANC has left.

Keeping him in hospital or jail would have been high noon for the battered, bruised and divided ANC.

As citizens we have a right to vote or not, so when you vote, vote with your head and not with your heart.

No blind loyalty to any political party or candidate.

Vote for those with integrity, political and services delivery track records.

Stanger does not have Indian political activist or political leaders, but political opportunists that mushroom before an election and give hampers to the poor and exploit them in print media or plant banana trees in potholes and expect them to bear fruit on election day.

That is opportunism, not leadership or activism.

I challenge all political parties to publish their top 10 PR candidates in the local papers so that people can scrutinize the candidate lists and decide which party has the best candidates to serve them.

I believe some political parties will have candidates who are worthless, women abusers, philanderers and criminals. Once elected they become party councillors, not answerable to the voters.

So, vote wisely, your vote is your power.
