#Letter: Use your vote wisely
"It is of paramount importance that the new municipal councillors and councils must be able to execute their constitutional obligations successfully and timeously, primarily effective service delivery, good governance and clean administration, with requisite public participation where applicable" - Simon Dehal.
Simon Dehal of Verulam writes:
All eligible voters are urged to vote in the 2021 local government elections on November 1.
Each vote is important and matters greatly.
As a democracy, we have come a long way over 2 plus decades but more remains to be done for the benefit of our beloved country and its diverse peoples.
It is of paramount importance that the new municipal councillors and councils must be able to execute their constitutional obligations successfully and timeously, primarily effective service delivery, good governance and clean administration, with requisite public participation where applicable.
Please be wary of looters, capturers, charlatans and fraudsters who unashamedly make empty promises.
Many are there just for their own gain and fleece constituents.
Some oldies are “crosstitutes” who are habitual floor-crossers prostituting themselves to benefit themselves and their buddies.
All parties must comply with the provisions of the Electoral Code.
Those who have been tolerant during the election trail, albeit in difficult circumstances, are highly commended.
Also, all those associated with the elections, especially SAPS, contractors allied with printing services, storage, transport etc must also play their part to ensure that substantially free and fair elections take place.
Please arise en masse and make your marks both prudently and meaningfully so that the country can prosper, wrongs are rectified and those that have been generally marginalised, ignored and neglected can have a better life and reap the real benefits of democracy.
