KwaDukuza Residents Forum secretary Riaan Verster writes to the KDM municipality:
We write to you regarding a matter of grave concern to us and the residents of Shaka’s Head (ward 4).
Delegates from the KwaDukuza Residents Forum (KDRF) visited Shaka’s Head again on February 3.
These repeat visits have confirmed that the municipal services being rendered to this area are minimal to non-existent.
Of particular concern is that the storm water drainage systems are clogged with refuse not removed by the KwaDukuza municipality.
There have already been a few instances in the recent past where very limited rain has resulted in residential homes in this settlement being flooded.
It is then with urgency that we call on the KwaDukuza Civil Engineering & Human Settlements Department to undertake the necessary emergency proactive steps to prevent possible flooding.
Once these emergency steps have been taken, we propose that you engage with the ward councillor and other interested stakeholders, including the KDRF, to ensure that a sustainable solution is found to the ongoing problems faced by this community around refuse removal, storm water reticulation and poor municipal service delivery in general.
