#Letter: Beach tide info board not updated

"I was told by the senior lifeguard on duty they did not have the tide timetables and it was not his job to get them" - Rodney Gillett.

Rodney Gillett of Seaward Estates, Ballito writes:

After noticing that the information board at the lifesaving station at Willard main beach has not been updated for months, I asked the lifeguards why nobody bothers to indicate the high and low tide times.

I was told by the senior lifeguard on duty they did not have the tide timetables and it was not his job to get them.

Well done Clarke Bay for filling in the board there to advise the public. It’s a pity our main beach cannot do so.

KwaDukuza Lifeguard Superintendent, Bongani Xulu responds:

I would like to apologise for the inconsistency of updating the tide board. I take note of the complaint and commit to rectifying the matter at Willard beach.

The “it’s not my job” comment is regretted. KDM lifeguards are professionals and know what is expected of them.

But we would just like to request that the public improve the manner of approach when raising any concerns.

We are here to serve the community and have the capacity to address any issues if need be and would appreciate respectful interaction.
