#ReportBack: KwaDukuza energy losses need to be dealt with

"There needs to be a better alignment between law enforcement and the electricity unit if this blatant criminality is to be tackled head-on" - Krsna Sing.

Democratic Alliance iLembe PR Councillor, Krsna Sing, writes:

The KwaDukuza municipality needs to aggressively deal with illegal electricity connections without fear or favour.

The municipality’s inability to deal with illegal residential and commercial connections is one of the compounding factors of energy losses which reached a staggering R237.7-million in 2021/22.

Poor residents are covered for 75KW of free electricity by the indigent policy, but after that usage it is important that they pay.

There needs to be a better alignment between law enforcement and the electricity unit if this blatant criminality is to be tackled head-on.

If not, these losses will deplete council funds and put further strain on service delivery.
