#Letter: Long power outage finally resolved

"Our neighbours are becoming annoyed with us for continuously asking them for hot water and using their homes to iron, cook and charge phones" - MC Dockhetha.

MC Dockhetha of Nkobongo writes:

I’m not happy with the KwaDukuza municipality’s response to the electricity problems at my home in Nkobongo Township (house No 63).

We have gone a week without power. I informed our ward committee and councillor, but still did not get help.

We have repeatedly called and sent WhatsApp messages to the municipality’s help desk number 060 900 3908, but no one responded and we really don’t know what more we can do.

Our councillor and the municipality are failing us.

We have children younger than 5 years and one two-week-old baby.

Our neighbours are becoming annoyed with us for continuously asking them for hot water and using their homes to iron, cook and charge phones.

KwaDukuza municipality spokesman Sipho Mkhize responds:

This matter was addressed last week Thursday. The issue was at home addresses number 63 and 64 and were reported and followed up by the ward councillor from November 6 until the restoration of power.

The electricity department acknowledges that this fell beyond the 72-hour turnaround time owing to the number of outages that had to be responded to.

The municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused, as it is working hard to ensure eradication of outages which are marring the KwaDukuza municipality.
