#Letter: Why the disparity?

"I can understand the areas closest to Siza Water but when you go as far as Sheffield side and Tiffany's shopping centre, and up to Baobab crescent, lights are all on 24/7. Please explain this to me?" - Sandy Harvey.

Ballito resident Sandy Harvey writes:

Please could someone enlighten me (even on our limited power grid), as to why Ballito has loadshedding ad nauseum and yet when you take a drive through to Salt Rock or Sheffield, from Salt Café northwards, there is no loadshedding at all?

I can understand the areas closest to Siza Water but when you go as far as Sheffield side and Tiffany’s shopping centre, and up to Baobab crescent, lights are all on 24/7. Please explain this to me?

Ward 22 Cllr Privi Makhan responds:

If a certain area is not being loadshed, it’s not because politically connected individuals live there, but rather because the area is on the same grid as the Avon Peaking power plant, which has to remain operational to feed back energy into the national grid.
