Docrra chairman Deon Viljoen writes:
The Dolphin Coast Residents and Ratepayers Association (Docrra) has gone from strength to strength in 2022, expanding and engaging more than ever.
We thank our members for their continued support. This enables us to take on critical issues and build relationships with entities that have real influence in our municipality.
We welcome Prince’s Grant as the newest estate member.
Speaking of expansion, we have added several new volunteer executive committee members this year to assist with an ever-increasing workload.
The 12 volunteers on our committee have collectively spent about 2 000 hours on Docrra issues over the last 12 months.
We have committee members representing Docrra on all ward committees. In addition, we are represented on the Integrated Development Plan Representative Forum (IDPRF), as well as the
Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) meetings.
This year has also marked our attendance at nearly all KwaDukuza municipality (KDM) council meetings, in part due to the expansion of the committee.
One of the most critical relationships we have developed is that with KDM. We now have a dedicated quarterly meeting with the municipality’s executives from all business units, as well as other leadership.
These meetings provide a unique opportunity to discuss critical issues and foster transparency and accountability, and we look forward to building upon this relationship next year.
Some of the highlights this year include the addition of 26 new staff members in the electricity department, and the approval of a by-law enforcement unit to address problems we are facing with fault repairs, troublesome high-volume traffic intersections, and on our beaches.
We will be following these issues closely, as well as the accurate and timeous billing of waste accounts, the expansion of informal settlements and the illegal attempt to sell a portion of Townsend Park.
