#Letter: Excellent policing at Ballito beaches

"Every bag was opened and examined to ensure that no one was allowed to carry liquor onto the beach" - Peter Collier.

Peter Collier of Ballito writes:

During the festive season, we spent almost every day on the beaches in the Ballito area.

One of the family’s favourites was Thompson’s Bay. I was impressed that every day the access points to the beaches were monitored and policed by KDM community safety officers, Saps and private security companies.

Every bag was opened and examined to ensure that no one was allowed to carry liquor onto the beach.

This was done politely and respectfully, although some of our upcountry visitors were not happy about this as they attempted to smuggle in their alcohol.

This policing and the prevention of drinking on the beaches meant that families could enjoy the beauty of our beaches without being harassed by unruly and intoxicated beachgoers.

Well done to all the people involved in conducting this policing.

You had to give up your time in the festive season, on public holidays and weekends to enable people like myself and my family to enjoy a good trouble-free day at the beach without the drunken behaviour that has been prevalent in the past.
