DA caucus leader Tammy Colley writes:
Standing rules of municipal councils are adopted once a new council is elected.
The rules for KwaDukuza were adopted in November, 2021.
In terms of rule 29, no matter can be brought to the attention of council except upon a notice of motion. The Democratic Alliance (DA) submitted motions and we are yet to see these finding a place on the agenda.
Similarly, rule 40 allows for questions that require answers to be submitted through the office of the speaker.
Again, the DA has submitted formal questions on two occasions, and we are still waiting for answers to these.
Government is supposedly structured to ensure processes are followed and services can be delivered to residents. It is unacceptable, but not surprising, that the municipality is evading critical questions.
It leaves us asking if there is a possibility that some information is being hidden from us.
We will not stop asking for answers to our questions that we feel our residents have the right to. The spend of public funds must be done in an honest and transparent manner.
