Simon Dehal of Verulam writes:
The reason why South Africa is presently in such a big mess is that we have too many incompetent and corrupt senior public officials and politicians in all three tiers of governemt.
Politicians are put in office by the votes of the electorate – and by default because of apathy among non-voters.
Many senior public officials and non-elected politicians are ruling party cronies, lackeys and buddies.
How long does it take for people to see the light? History has shown people are often gluttons for punishment.
It took decades for dictators such as Robert Mugabe and others to be removed from office.
Those who liberated citizens at first later themselves became oppressors, ruling with iron fists and disdain.
In 2024 South Africa will be holding national elections. People must rise from their deep slumber, shake off apathy and put on their thinking caps.
How much longer do we have to be deceived by con artists and nincompoops in public office and deprived by our constitutional rights as per Act 108 of 1996?
Disillusionment and disappointment may have set in. However, we must rise en mass to claim what is ours and what the law espouses by voting with wisdom and due discernment so South Africa will no longer be in a pathetic state.
Only then will the masses, especially the previously disadvantaged, have a better life and brighter future.
In truth, post apartheid we have regressed. What use is freedom if we are prisoners in our homes and at the mercy of thugs and useless state personnel.
Make a positive difference at the ballot box next year. In this way poverty, inequality, crime, corruption and unemployment will be drastically reduced.
Don’t be fooled by the smooth-talkers, crooks and charlatans whose promises are hollow and empty. They just want to hoodwink you and only line their pockets.
Enough is enough.
