#Letter: Promenade safety needs attention

"I landed on my shoulder and head and had to be taken to hospital by a Ballito resident who saw the fall" - Pamela White.

Simbithi Eco Estate resident Pamela White writes:

I recently read the article and several letters in the Courier regarding people’s safety on the Promenade (boardwalk).

At the end of July I was running on the boardwalk, tripped and went headfirst under the balustrade railings and fell approximately three metres onto the beach below.

I landed on my shoulder and head and had to be taken to hospital by a Ballito resident who saw the fall.

Since the accident I have had limited use of my right arm and am still in pain. The costs of the services of a physiotherapist and a biokineticist are mounting.

The gap between the boardwalk surface and the first horizontal rail is so wide that it cannot prevent an adult from going under it. I can only imagine the increased risk to children who use the walkway.

Something must be done about this issue.
