#Opinion: Residents urge new mayor to prioritise service delivery

Streetlights, potholes and crime were all listed as common sense interventions.

KwaDukuza officially has a new mayor and readers shared their thoughts on what his first act in office should be. Many said a ‘100-day plan’ should prioritise basic services, infrastructure, and accountability.

Bevan Gerard Ellis – Fix all streetlights, focus on minor road repairs, cut and clean all the road verges, fix all stormwater pipes and water leaks. KDM can look much better this festive period going into 2026.

Jean van Wyk – Sign an extended contract with Siza Water and rework the promenade to make it safer to walk on (rather than wooden planks). The rest is maintenance that should be monitored and contractors held accountable

Linda Ostendorf – Fix the robots

Gill Martini – Fire the cabinet.

Mark Chetty – Fix the robots at KDM.

Pro Mthethwa – Focus on service delivery not ANC factions. Ensure the town is neat and attracts the business people. Enforce by-laws to make sure that industrial areas employ the right people with papers. Get rid of the pharas and street mechanics etc

Nomalizo Buyelekhaya – Fix the drainage around town in Stanger, sewage flowing in the street and enforce the law in King Shaka and in Hullet Street. There are a lot of drug dealers on those streets, it is not safe to walk there especially after 5pm.

Dirk Conrad Coetsee – Doing anything useful at all and not stealing money would be a massive improvement already.

Ayanda Hlanti – Recycling the same incompetence. Why not give fresh minds a chance?
