#Opinion: Residents weigh in on which North Coast beaches are cleanest
From Umdloti to Zinkwazi, there was plenty of friendly debate.

Readers share their views on the cleanest beaches along the North Coast and highlight which ones need the most attention
Tracey Warren – Willard beach toilets need urgent attention.
Tarryn Vd Merwe – Salt Rock and Willard are both lovely but as per a previous comment the ablutions and showers need attention. Salt Rock could also have a better lifeguard tower, even like the lifeguard towers on the beach for lifeguards on duty to have shade and be close to the water. Honestly think most beaches nowadays need those (almost want to say like the ones in Baywatch).
Andile Nxumalo – Cleanest is Thompsons Bay.
Suran Moodley – Umhloti is very clean and very safe to walk anytime at night also we enjoy living our holidays there.
Varsha Huripurshad – Zinkwazi is the best any day.
Noneka Nonny – Willard beach.
Michelle Pritchard – Chakas Rock is the most beautiful, but there’s so much tiny pieces of plastic in the sand especially the part where you enter the pool. We really need help with removing all that plastic. When we have big easterly swell, you will see how bad it gets. We have a community cleanup this Saturday and need as much hands as possible. Think if we start on land it might stop it from going to the sea. Please join if you can.
Durban Surf Lifestyle – Westbrook Beach could do with a good wash down and all the pollution going into the sea needs to be looked at.
Muhammed Bapeekee – Salt Rock and Ballito vetos know how to maintain. UIP makes a huge difference too.
Thabani Mazibuko – Tinley Manor. You can assist by removing plastics, bottles and witchcraft materials.
Gordon Hamman – Westbrook full of fisherman’s left-over junk all over. Families picnic and just leave everything there.
Pregasen Chetty – I think it will be the least visited ones like Zinkwazi. North coast population is small so not many people go to that beach.
Connie Butler – I agree all the toilets need urgent attention!!
