#Letter: Racism remains a scourge in society

Ninety-one year old Ballito resident Elizabeth Horton-Hall laments the ongoing problem of racism.

Ballito resident Elizabeth Horton-Hall writes:

In response to Katrina Hansraj’s letter on her sister’s experience with racism in Johannesburg (Racism on our doorstep, Courier, January 30). Racism is rife in South Africa and it will never stop.

I was born here in Durban 91 years ago, a South African with white skin. Soon after, the nationalist government came into power with their racial segregation and white supremacy.

The way black South Africans were treated then and are often still treated now; I can understand how deep scars remain.

As for those people who don’t like living under a “black” government, and spread lies about South Africa (e.g. white genocide), I say pack your bags and go. We don’t need you here.

I’m sure that monster Donald Trump will take you in.

Letter shortened – Ed.
